Nosy Be (In Malagasy: Nosy, island and Be, large; Ambariobe in local dialect) is a coastal island of Madagascar in the Mozambique Channel, off the northwest coast of Madagascar. Along with Diego-Suarez and Île Sainte-Marie, it was one of three former French settlements in Madagascar before the French government colonized the whole of Madagascar in 1895.
Nosy Be has a fairly regular shape, with a fairly irregular relief. Its highest point is Lokobe at 450 m in the south-east of the island, followed by Mount Passot at 315 m in the center of the island, accessible via the sacred lakes. Its coastline is interrupted by numerous bays and beaches fringed with coconut palms.

Yes you can travel alone but the streets are not well signature and the public transport outside of Nosy Be is quite a challenge. I would suggest to take a good tourguide on your hand who speaks your language so you feel comfortable.
